Choosing a course
Designed for people who need the knowledge and practical skills to safely operate a forklift in a workplace.
Designed for experienced forklift operators who need the Forklift endorsement added to their NZ driver licence. Remember — a legally defined road can be inside your workplace.
Complete both your workplace forklift operator training and Forklift endorsement course as one coordinated programme.
Important to know
For forklift licensing purposes, a road is not limited to a public street or highway. Under New Zealand land transport law, the definition of a road is broad — it can include places the public has access to, whether they have a legal right to be there or not.
A forklift does not have to leave your business premises or travel along a conventional public street for a Forklift endorsement to be required. Depending on public access, areas such as these may fall within the legal definition of a road:

Does my workplace require a Forklift endorsement?
If customers can access a yard, loading area or collection area, it may potentially meet the definition of a road.
Public or commercial access may be relevant when determining whether an area is a road.
NZTA specifically identifies an ungated factory yard as an example of an area that may meet the legal definition.
These areas may also potentially be roads.
A wharf or beach may also fall within the legal definition of a road.
