About the assessment
The CBTA Full Motorcycle Licence (class 6F) is the final stage of the New Zealand motorcycle licensing system. Once passed, all LAMS and restricted licence conditions are removed and you can ride any motorcycle on the road.
What you'll work on
Demonstrate confident, safe riding on open roads at higher speeds — correct positioning, overtaking judgement, and sustained situational awareness.
Identify, prioritise, and respond to multiple hazards simultaneously — the hallmark of a fully competent, CBTA-certified rider.
Checking mirrors, scanning your whole environment including blind spots, and showing deliberate head checks before every lane change, turn, and intersection.
Choosing the right line into and out of corners, holding correct lane position on rural and urban roads, and demonstrating smooth, controlled cornering technique at speed.
Tight U-turns, low-speed control, parking and intersection manoeuvring — proving you've still got the bike fundamentals from your earlier licence stages.
Consistently making safe, defensive decisions across the full assessment — speed selection, gap acceptance, following distances, and reading the road ahead.
Inclusions
Your Revs instructor rides with you and briefs you on every aspect of what the CBTA Full assessor is looking for.
Don't have your own bike, or worried yours doesn't meet WoF requirements? Speak to us in advance and we'll arrange a hire bike for assessment day.
Your CBTA Full assessment is delivered on the day by an NZTA-approved assessor. Pass with us and there's no separate VTNZ full practical test to sit.
Sessions run throughout the week. If you need to reschedule, let us know and we'll find a date that works.
Before you book
You must hold your NZ Class 6R restricted motorcycle licence for the required minimum period (18 months if under 25, or 12 months with an approved CBTA Restricted course) before sitting the Full assessment.
Use your own motorcycle (current WoF, registration and tyres in good order), or arrange a hire bike with Revs in advance.
Helmet, gloves, long pants, sturdy covered footwear and a jacket. Helmets and gloves are available from Revs if you don't have your own.
