Basic Handling Skills Test
Complete the practical BHST on a Revs-provided motorcycle in a controlled environment. You'll be assessed on slow-speed manoeuvres, emergency braking and core bike control. Experienced riders only — this is an assessment, not a lesson.

Basic Handling Skills Test

Practical BHST assessment on a Revs-provided motorcycle. All safety equipment provided.

Theory Test Fee at the AA

Class 6 Learner theory test cost is included. No surprise extras at the AA counter.

On-Road Restricted Assessment

CBTA on-road assessment for your Restricted licence — conducted by an approved Revs assessor.

LAMS Motorcycle Hire

A fully compliant LAMS-approved motorcycle is provided for your Restricted assessment — no need to own a bike.

AA Endorsement Fee

The AA fee to issue your Restricted licence is fully covered. Leave with your Restricted Licence.

Before you book

Who can do the Fast Track?

The Fast Track is designed for experienced riders only. You'll complete two assessments across the day — a Basic Handling Skills Test in the morning, then your on-road Restricted assessment in the afternoon. Both are manageable for riders with real-world experience.

Because we use the CBTA Restricted pathway, there's no minimum time you need to hold your Learner before the Restricted assessment. You just need to meet the requirements to the right.

  • Must be 16½ or older on the day of the course — required to apply for a Restricted licence via the CBTA pathway
  • Current valid NZ photo ID — passport, driver licence, or 18+ card. Check NZTA accepted ID ↗
  • Existing riding experience required — you will be assessed on your skills, not taught from scratch
  • No existing learner licence required — you earn it on the day as part of the course
  • Not currently disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver licence

Helmets & gloves available

Full-face helmets and gloves are available to borrow on the day — no need to bring your own. Just turn up ready to ride. Clothing on the day needs to be suitable for riding on the open road: long-sleeved front fastening jacket, long pants and sturdy protective footwear (above ankle). Protective motorcycle gear is recommended. Wet weather gear should be brought if the weather looks uncooperative!

What happens after?

Your Restricted licence lets you ride without an L plate. All other learner licence conditions remain.
